Their job has grown dramatically in recent years, both in its scope and in complexity. CEO's may even operate all over the world, in a period of our history, that have rarely been more turbulent than today. Most organisations, they head, are no longer simple subsidiary structures but are comprised of intricate networks of overlapping jurisdictions and relationships. Global issues mean that CEO's' responsibilities are no longer limited to what happens inside the company. In fact, global sustainability and the way it shapes our lives depend as much on the actions of the medium to large corporations as on those of any government or NGO's -maybe more so. The average CEO must feel as if he has the weight of the world on their shoulders. 

CEO's need to be good at what they do, and what they do involves a great measure of responsibility. Most of all, in order to be successful, a CEO needs to be able to perform every task well. Right from start-up to the success or failure of the company, the CEO is responsible. Whether it is operations, finance and budgeting, marketing, human resources, hiring and firing of employees, and more, the CEO is responsible for every aspect of the business. Even though there may be functional managers looking into the running of various departments, the ultimate responsibility does fall on the CEO.

On the other hand, there are several areas such as creating a corporate culture - setting the tone and theme of the business - ensuring simplification of business processes, ensuring adherence to corporate governance, acting as a role model of sustainable job performance and building a core senior management team, which must be competently managed by the CEO.

Our methodology is based on making a personal appointment with the CEO or Managing Director. This appointment achieves a twofold purpose. The first is to establish whether or not they can assist the CEO; but the most important task is give both parties the opportunity of assessing whether or nor they can work together.

The first appointment is free and includes a free computerised assessment that is designed to highlight the areas that may be of concern to the CEO. This report can be done on line by the CEO at the appointment and results can be downloaded at the end of the session.

Dr Freestone, one of our Senior Lead advisor, is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA). He has an MBA in Marketing and a D.BA (Doctorate in Business Administration). He recently underwent the full Alt-x certification program with Wits Business School in the non executive director training program and specialises in Corporate Governance.

He is a proponent of the Balanced Score Card approach in ensuring execution of Strategic Management. He has received formal training on this from The Palladium Group in a Balanced Scorecard Bootcamp which taught the Kaplan and Norton Methodology.
